Program Description:

The mission of the Counseling Psychology Department is to train students to be competent and ethical practitioners, encourage and enable application of the knowledge and skills students gain and nurture students’ ability to integrate faith and practice. Students meet educational requirements for a variety of state and national credentials and certification. The MA in Counseling degree meets all the educational requirements for the Pennsylvania LPC credential. Thoughtful integration of faith and psychology prepares students to understand human nature, identify problems and symptoms and implement effective interventions. Additionally, students can choose a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis, which meets the educational requirements for the national BCBA and state LBS credentials, or Trauma Studies. The MA in School Counseling program prepares students to seek certification in Pennsylvania as a pre-K-12 School Counselor, and to work in a variety of school settings. Students are able to create and implement comprehensive school counseling program, advocating for the social, emotional and academic wellbeing of children and adolescents. Students complete all of the educational requirements for the state LBS credential, and meet the eight educational content areas required for state licensure. The MS in School Psychology program trains students to become certified School Psychologists in the state of Pennsylvania. Through careful blending of art and science, graduates implement data-based assessment, consultation, and prevention/intervention strategies in school settings. Additionally, students meet the educational requirements for the NCSP credential.

Requirements:

A completed application packet (including application, application fee, official transcript, professional resume and two recommendations), admissions interview and on-site writing sample. • Candidates for the MA in Counseling (w/ Trauma Studies or ABA concentration) and MA in School Counseling must have at minimum a 2.8 GPA (3.0 preferred); candidates for the MA in School Psychology must have at minimum a 3.0 GPA. • Completion of two prerequisite undergraduate Behavioral Science courses (6 credits within the last 10 years)

International Requirements:

International students must complete the same admissions requirements and application process, although they must also take the TOFEL exam if their undergraduate training was in another language other than English. Additionally, they will need to meet all requirements to obtain an I-20 in order to obtain a student visa. The admissions deadline for international students is typically mid-April.
