- Program Description:
The English Literary Studies MA programme allows you to specialise in a particular area of English Literature, choosing the modules that interest you the most. You'll be studying with acknowledged experts in the subject and will write a dissertation on the subject of your choice. Durham boasts one of the best English Departments in the country, offering the opportunity to study at the highest level in a beautiful environment.
This MA is sufficiently flexible to allow you to combine modules informally, focusing on areas you find most interesting. Possibilities might include: American literature; fiction and prose writing; literature, race and gender; genre studies; political and social contexts of literature.
During the programme, you will complete a core Research Methods and Resources module, undertake a dissertation and select three further modules of your choice.

- We welcome applications from overseas students, who should be proficient in spoken and written English. We prefer IELTS, with a miniumum overall score of 7.5 including a 7 in writing; or TOEFL PBT (paper-based):625 ; or IBT (internet-based) 113. Successful applicants may also wish to consider a Pre-Sessional English course at the Language Centre in Durham.
