The Arts and Letters program stresses a classic well-rounded and broad-based liberal arts education at the graduate level. It takes as a guiding principle Henry Adams' thought that a valid education prepares a citizen to meet any emergency with economy and force. Both the master's and doctoral components of this program acknowledge the timely problems -- and timeless speculations -- of Western civilization.
