Program Description:
Columbia College Chicago’s Music Composition for the Screen, MFA program is one of the nation’s few advanced degrees in writing music for film, television, and other visual media, and is recognized by industry leaders as a genuine point of entry into this highly competitive field. Students receive personal attention from experienced faculty and working music and film professionals. Students undertake creative and technical studies, build strong portfolios, engage in collaborative projects across disciplines, and develop vital industry connections. The program culminates in five-week sessions in Lost Angeles at the historic Raleigh Studios, where students experience direct exposure to the profession. Candidates of the Music Composition for the Screen, MFA program will: • Receive personal attention and feedback from working music and film professionals that make up the program’s faculty • Become well rounded professionals who are not only versed in all areas of music production, but also the mediums they compose for including film, television, and games • Spend five weeks in L.A. establishing professional relationships, undergoing internships, and being exposed to all creative, technical, and business aspects of the industry • Complete scores for short films which are written, produced, and conducted by the students for a recording with a studio orchestra
