Program Overview

Program Description:
The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (M.A.C.P.) program is designed for students who wish to become professional mental health counselors - especially those seeking mental health counselor licensure (LMHC) in the state of Washington. The optional Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) Specialization is designed for students who wish to become licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT) in the state of Washington and can be taken as part of the M.A.C.P. program or as a stand alone series for those who already have a M.A.C.P. degree.Upon successful completion of the program, you will be better prepared to: conduct clinical assessments and diagnosis; apply theory to clinical cases; write formal treatment plans; and meet with other professionals in case consultations. Through practicum and clinical internships, you will learn how to navigate the local mental health system and how to address the issues within that system. The optional CFT specialization will prepare you to focus on issues relating to couples and families. You will be qualified to seek employment in community mental health as a professional mental health counselor or marriage and family therapist (with the CFT specialization). You will have the opportunity to work in various mental health settings, including non-profit counseling agencies, private counseling practices, managed care organizations, and hospitals.
