Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to graduate study in issues and topics related to the Middle Eastern region. Students enrolled in the program gain a broad understanding of the history, politics, economics, religions, and cultures of this critical region, as well as develop special competence in their particular area of interest. The program is geared to those interested in academic careers as well as those pursuing a terminal MA degree in preparation for careers outside the academy such as public policy, journalism, social work, international relations, human rights, economic development, immigrant advocacy, education, or translation/interpretation. This program gives students, and the institutions they will later serve, the tools they need to think critically and creatively about the Middle East. Students will have access to diverse faculty and wide expertise as well as to the rich resources available in the city itself. Students will also be able to enrich their studies through participation in the MEMEAC (Middle East & Middle Eastern American Center) events, programs, and resources. Prior study of the Middle East is not required for admission nor is knowledge of a Middle Eastern language.
