Program Overview

Program Description:
Medical Neurosciences focuses on translational research. The program provides a structured education in basic neuroscience to medical students and trains students of the natural and life sciences in medical topics concerning the central and peripheral nervous system. Besides in depth theoretical training, the MSc program emphasizes practical lab experience, preparing graduates for continued research as PhD students. The program is very research driven. Since 2008, it is an integral part of the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure, a large scale research cluster funded by the German Excellence Initiative. In addition to Charité scientists, research laboratories of the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine, the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology and the Max Plack Institute for Human Development contribute to the program. Furthermore, we have close ties to other neuroscience programs in Berlin such as the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience’s graduate program, the International Helmholtz Research School Molecular Neurobiology and various Research Training Groups (GRK). Medical Neuroscience students thus have access to a large number of research laboratories in both basic as well as in clinical research, headed by internationally acknowledged scientists. They can choose from a very broad spectrum of research fields ranging from molecular neurobiology to cognition and neurodegenerative diseases and develop their individual focus accordingly. To sum it up, here are 5 good reasons to apply: 1. Cutting edge science by world class scientists on the interface between bench and bedside 2. Excellent basic research in neuroscience 3. Intense theoretical training combined with extensive practical lab work, preparing you perfectly for a PhD program and subsequent research career 4. Friendly, international learning environment 5. Small classes and close faculty contact
