Program Overview
- Program Description:
- Bryn Mawr's M.A. program combines graduate study in small seminars on its campus, where the faculty offer individual attention to the 5-8 students in each class, with summer study in the Institut d'Etudes francaises d'Avignon, where M.A. candidates join graduate students from top American and European universities in courses taught by distinguished professors from both continents. Field specialties of Bryn Mawr's faculty include the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, 17th century, the Enlightenment, 19th and 20th century literature and civilization, and Francophone North African, West African, sub-Saharan and Caribbean literature. Literary theory is presented in theory-specific and field courses. Many students complete the degree in twelve months of intensive study to prepare themselves for admission to the best Ph.D.-granting programs in the U.S. and Europe.
