- As the birthplace of the Spanish language, Spain is the ideal location for students to learn its language, experience its customs, and discover its history and art.
The University of Southern Mississippi's study-abroad program in Spain offers students the opportunity to actively participate in every facet of Spain's rich culture and heritage. While gaining confidence and proficiency in the Spanish language through courses taken at La Universidad de Cadiz. Students will also experience the excitement of Spanish music, Spain's beaches, mountains and countryside, the grandeur of world-renowned architecture, theater, art, bullfights; and most of all, the generosity of Spanish people.
Program participants will be assigned to classes based on their academic background in Spanish. All courses emphasize communication skills and oral proficiency. Southern Miss' Spanish in Spain Program awards six (6) semester hours of credit in Spanish to students who complete five weeks of coursework with passing grades. These hours may be taken at any level, from beginning Spanish through advanced. The level of credit depends on the individual's academic background in Spanish, as determined by his or her transcript. Minimum program eligibility requirements include the completion of at least 28 semester hours with an overall 2.0 GPA for undergraduates (or consent of program director). All students must be in clear academic standing. Students must also satisfy any additional prerequisites described under the individual course listings. The director of the program, in consultation with the Foreign Languages department chair and the Director of International Programs are responsible for final enrollment decisions.

- Nestled between Seville and Malaga, Cadiz is the southernmost province of Spain. If you seek the authentic taste of Andalusian culture and tradition, you need look no further than Cadiz. Besides a wide variety of natural spaces of exceptional ecological beauty, this region contains wetlands and coastal areas that remain untouched. The more than 260 kilometres (approximately 162 miles) of coastline are home to pristine beaches, small bays and several kilometres (miles) of sand dunes. You will also find cosy and intimate beaches with tranquil waters, as well as open beaches swept by strong winds that are perfect for windsurf lovers. An average annual temperature of almost 18ºC (64ºF) on the coast and over 300 days of sunshine per year make this enclave between Africa and Europe a privileged place to live and study. - Cost:
- The cost of the program is $4350 for six (6) credit hours. This price includes tuition, fees, mandatory insurance, home-stay, two meals per day, welcome reception and group excursions/activities. Excursions/activities include: - Visit to a castle in Puerto de Santa Maria - Andalusian gastronomy cooking - Flamenco workshop - Day trips to Ronda and Zahara de la Sierra; Vejer, Baelo Claudia, and Tarifa; and Sevilla Flight is not included in the cost of the program.
