Today is Flag Day here in Argentina. It's extremely exciting because the first flag ever in Argentina was hoisted here in my city. For that reason, we have the National Flag Monument. Everyone will travel to Rosario today, there are no classes, no work, everyone will be celebrating! Even the President is expected to come! There will be a parade and a procession of the flag through the city.
Being in South America during the World Cup is an experience like no other. I originally was planning on going to Rio last weekend to see Argentina play but it wouldn't have been smart for my bank account or my safety. I played soccer basically my whole life, until I gave it up for volleyball in high school. I don't know why but there's something so exciting about a soccer game to me. While in Argentina, I have watched all or part of every World Cup game that has been on TV.
Hola! Friday we decided to buy bus tickets and head to Uruguay for a spontaneous less than 24 hour trip! We bought the tickets in the morning and went to grab some empanadas for lunch quickly before everyone had to get back to class. After class we all went home to take a nap and have dinner. We went out to the bar to grab a drink and then headed off to the train station at midnight. Our bus was supposed to leave at 1am but it ended up leaving at 2. Busses are always late here!
Living in a new place with new people, new customs, and a new language can be difficult for many people. There are definitely a few girls in our group who are having a hard time adjusting to everything here in Argentina. It's totally normal to be homesick, it's all part of the experience! There are many ways you can make it better....or worse. You are living in a foreign country and while it may only be 6 weeks, 3 months, or 6 months, it will take some adjusting.
Hola! Sorry for the lack of posting this week. I brought the wrong adapter for my laptop and it died Monday morning!! Thankfully one of the girls on the trip had an extra so we are all good now! This week we had orientation at the University and got to meet our ambassadors! They are a group of students here at UCEL (my school) who have studied abroad as well and they are here to help us and show us around the city.
