An Untraditional Year Abroad

June 30th, 2008 · No Comments

A Northeastern student knowing that she wanted to study abroad based her study abroad selection on location. Many US students tend to pick location first when thinking to study abroad - but she chose the location based on not knowing too much about that country.

Emmania Rodriguez explains in an interview.

“I mainly chose Vietnam because I didn’t really know much about the country. All I ever knew about Vietnam was the Vietnam War and not much of anything else. I thought that if I was to go abroad I had to go somewhere very far away and somewhere that was very different from what I know and am accustomed to.”

Emmania Rodriguez spent a year studying abroad in Vietnam on a program that combines community service, field research, and classroom work.
